A race for points
Dice are never lost. The loser of each round takes penalty points equal to the round’s stake. After a set number of rounds (10 by default) the fewest points wins; a tie goes to sudden-death rounds.
The opening bid
The opening quantity must be at least the number of players (Hong Kong), or the number of players plus one (Guangdong and Singapore).
飛 (mixed) and 齋 (pure)
Every round starts 飛: 1s are wild and you cannot bid on 1s.
A bid can be called 齋, and a bid on 1s is always 齋. While pure, 1s are not wild and rank highest: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, then 1. The round stays pure until someone bids 飛.
The cups show three 5s and two 1s. Bid 飛, that is five 5s. Bid 齋, it is only three.
Switching between 齋 and 飛
| Move | Hong Kong and Singapore | Guangdong |
|---|---|---|
| To 齋 | 齋 beats 飛 at the same quantity | At least half the 飛 quantity, plus one |
| Back to 飛 | Raise the quantity by two | At least double the 齋 quantity |
| Example | Six 6s 飛 → six of any face 齋 | Six 5s 飛 → four of any face 齋 |
開: calling
The player to act can call 開 (open) on the standing bid, at stake 1.
劈 and 反劈
Any player except the bidder can call 劈 out of turn, at stake 2. The bidder then accepts (reveal at stake 2) or answers 反劈, a counter, and the reveal is at stake 4. Only one counter.
Special hands
Each cup is checked at the reveal.
